This article speaks of how Anzaldua needed to learn English without having an accent.   Nearly every person coming to the United States from any other country has some kind of accent.   I do not see why it was important to have their accent corrected once they are in the States, since eventually they will learn English without having an accent.   This article also relates to how people speak. How it is not proper to say certain phrases. This is a diverse country and different cultures have different manners of speaking. Same goes to the people who have English as their first language.
